Allergies

Dogs and cats can suffer from allergies the same way people do. Pet allergies generally fall into four categories: flea allergies, food allergies, contact allergies, and airborne allergies.

Flea Allergy (Dermatitis)

If your pet has sensitive skin, he may have an allergic reaction to flea bites. Symptoms include continuous scratching that can lead to sores, scabs, and hair loss. By inspecting your pet’s skin, your vet can tell if your pup or kit has a flea allergy.

Food Sensitivities and Allergies

Food allergies can be triggered by ingredients in some pet foods. Symptoms may start with itching and progress to sores, hair loss, ear infections, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Contact allergies

Contact allergies are caused by irritants such as carpet fibers, grass, pesticides, flowers, weeds, and other plants. Your pet may also be allergic to his shampoo, skin cream, fragrance spray.

Airborne Allergies

Like people, dogs and cats can be allergic to particles in the air like pollen, dander, ragweed, and others. Airborne allergies may cause itching around your pet’s head, ears, face, neck and feet.

Diagnosing allergies is the first step to getting treatment. Your vet can use skin and blood testing or an elimination diet to diagnose many types of allergies and recommend products that can alleviate symptoms that are aggravating your pet’s life.

Spay & Neuter

As dogs’ and cats’ sex organs are susceptible to several different forms of cancer, spaying or neutering — the surgical removal of those organs — is crucial to keeping your puppy or kitten around for as long as possible. Spaying or neutering also have the added benefit of preventing undesirable behaviors like aggression, marking, and menstruation. Both procedures are safe, routine surgeries and pets who undergo the procedure often return home the same day.

Dogs and cats can be fixed as young as four months old, and the longer you wait to have your pet fixed, the riskier it becomes. Make an appointment to spay or neuter your puppy or kitten today!

We have separate wards for dogs and for cats. Critical patients are kept in a close observation unit within our daily treatment area until they are well enough for transfer to the main wards. Families are always welcome to visit any hospitalized pet. We feel that anyone who needs to stay in the hospital deserves the extra TLC that only their family can provide.

Diagnostics/Imaging

When your pet isn’t feeling well, she can’t tell you what’s wrong. No matter what kind of health problem your pet is experiencing, we look for answers through a variety of strategies. Diagnostic services include blood analysis to check for infection, abnormal blood sugar levels, or other imbalances. We also use X-ray equipment to determine if a bone has been broken or a foreign object has been swallowed. Our office uses both rigid and flexible endoscopy as well as ultrasound. Using our technology, we are able to determine what is going on with your pet, and we work to find a solution.

We also have a fully equipped in-house lab for blood testing and examining skin scrapings, ear swabs, urine and fecal samples, cytology, slides, and special studies.

Isolation Care Unit

For pets who need 24-hour care or have an infectious disease, we maintain an isolation unit to make sure your pet gets the care they need while protecting them from potentially infectious diseases. We are careful to keep sick and healthy patients separated as part of our commitment to give your pet the best possible care.

In-House Pharmacy

For your convenience, we have a fully stocked veterinary pharmacy on site so you can pick up your pet’s medications as soon as they’re prescribed. Our veterinarians will give you a thorough rundown on your pet’s medications, including dosing, and potential side effects.
